Neck pain is commonest problem .Poor posture either from leaning over a computer for longer periods at work strains neck muscles and may cause neck pain.
It is usually relieved by medical management and rarely may be cause dbe underlying serious problem ( when associated with numbness or loss of strength of arm or hands or radiation pain along the shoulder to the arm ).

Your orthopedician will take your medical history and do an examination. The examination will include checking for site of pain , tenderness , range of neck movements and numbness or radiation along arm or hands and may order some tests to rule out any underlying causes -
Imaging tests might help find the cause of the neck pain and done only after examination by your orthopedician -
Other tests (based on symptoms) -
Usually mild to moderate neck pain responds to self care within two or three weeks . Pain relievers and heat application to the pain site may help some times .
Pain relievers such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), or opiods need to be taken as directed by the treating doctor .Sometimes for muscle spasms the doctor will prescribe muscle relaxants along with pain killers.
