Cardiothoracic & vascular surgery in Hyderabad

Heart surgery, coronary stenting and surgery on leg arteries or veins belong to different specialist pathways. The right assessment depends on the diagnosis, urgency and treatment being considered.

Contact My Health Hospitals for clinical cardiology assessment or a KPHB vascular consultation. For CABG, valve or other cardiothoracic surgery, confirm the cardiac surgeon and operating hospital separately before planning treatment.

My Health Hospitals

Start with the clinical question

Is the concern a coronary artery blockage, a heart valve problem, leg circulation, an aneurysm or symptomatic veins? Bring your reports so the team can guide the next assessment.

Consultation at one branch does not establish that every operation or catheter procedure is performed there.

Emergency symptoms need immediate care

Chest pressure with sweating, spreading pain, faintness or breathlessness, severe breathing difficulty or collapse requires emergency assessment. A suddenly cold, pale, painful or weak limb, or sudden severe chest, back or abdominal pain also needs urgent help. Do not drive yourself or wait for a routine appointment.

Which specialist does what?

SpecialtyTypical roleWhat to confirm
Clinical cardiologyAssessment of symptoms, test reports and cardiovascular risk; medical care and referral planning. The consulting clinician and the qualification relevant to your concern.
Interventional cardiologySelected catheter-based heart procedures such as coronary angiography, angioplasty and stenting. The operating interventional cardiologist, cath-lab facility and follow-up plan.
Cardiothoracic surgerySelected operations on the heart and structures in the chest, including CABG or valve surgery.A named cardiothoracic surgeon, procedure hospital, anaesthesia and critical-care arrangements.
Vascular and endovascular surgeryAssessment and treatment of selected artery and vein disorders outside the heart. The vascular diagnosis, appropriate specialist and whether open, endovascular or non-operative care is indicated.

A vascular surgeon is not automatically the cardiac bypass surgeon, and a clinical cardiologist is not automatically the coronary stent operator. The relevant team must be identified for the proposed treatment.

When cardiac surgery may be considered

1

Coronary bypass / CABG

Bypass grafts create another route for blood to reach heart muscle around selected artery narrowings. The choice between medicines, PCI and CABG depends on anatomy, symptoms, heart function and other conditions.

2

Valve repair or replacement

Significant valve disease may need surveillance, medicines, repair or replacement. Surgical and catheter-based options differ; a specialist team considers the valve, symptoms and individual risk.

3

Other chest or aortic conditions

Some thoracic or aortic problems need a cardiothoracic or aortic team. The responsible specialist depends on the exact site and condition, rather than the general page title.

These are treatment examples, not confirmation of an on-site heart-surgery programme. Before planned surgery, obtain the surgeon's name, qualifications, hospital location and perioperative support details.

Vascular conditions and treatment choices

Artery problems

Leg pain on walking, rest pain or non-healing wounds can be associated with peripheral artery disease, though there are other causes. Assessment may include pulses, pressure measurements, Doppler ultrasound or selected imaging.

Risk-factor management, medicines and an appropriate exercise programme can help selected patients. Severe symptoms or threatened tissue may require revascularisation, such as an endovascular procedure or bypass, after assessment.

Vein problems

Symptomatic varicose veins, swelling or skin changes need assessment to establish the cause and suitable treatment. Options vary with the vein findings, circulation, symptoms and overall health.

Do not assume all leg swelling is varicose veins or apply strong compression without advice when arterial circulation may be impaired. Sudden one-sided swelling or pain needs prompt assessment; associated breathlessness or chest pain is an emergency.

Aneurysm treatment depends on its location, size, symptoms and other risks. Not every aneurysm needs immediate surgery, but sudden severe symptoms need emergency evaluation.

Bring the information that changes the plan

  • A clear symptom timeline: onset, triggers, walking distance where relevant, rest pain, swelling or wound changes.
  • Previous ECG, echo, angiography, Doppler, CT or MRI reports and images if available.
  • Discharge summaries, previous procedure records and a complete medicine list, including blood thinners and supplements.
  • Details of diabetes, kidney disease, breathing problems, allergies, contrast reactions and previous anaesthetic problems.
  • Your daily activity, practical support needs and goals for treatment.

Ask what each proposed investigation will change. Routine ECG, echo and scans answer different questions; a normal echo alone does not establish that all coronary arteries are clear. Confirm test location and preparation rather than assuming every investigation is available at both branches.

Before agreeing to a procedure

  • What is the diagnosis, how urgent is it and what are the reasonable alternatives?
  • Who will perform the procedure and at which hospital?
  • What is the expected benefit for my symptoms, function or future risk?
  • What are my individual risks, including bleeding, infection, heart or lung complications, stroke or kidney injury where relevant?
  • What anaesthesia, blood support, monitoring, critical care and emergency backup are needed?
  • What happens if a different treatment is preferable or the procedure cannot be completed as planned?

No operation is risk-free. The treating specialist should tailor consent to the actual procedure and health conditions. Do not stop blood thinners, heart medicines or diabetes treatment without specific instructions.

Recovery and follow-up need their own plan

Recovery after a catheter procedure, open vascular operation or cardiac surgery can differ greatly. Ask for written wound-care, activity, rehabilitation and follow-up advice rather than relying on a fixed online timetable.

After coronary stenting, stopping prescribed antiplatelets too early can cause a clot and heart attack. Valve surgery may involve a different long-term medicine and monitoring plan, depending on the valve and other factors. Do not transfer another patient's instructions to your own care.

Seek urgent help for severe chest pain, major breathlessness, collapse, uncontrolled bleeding or a cold/numb limb after a procedure. Increasing wound pain, redness, discharge or fever needs prompt contact with the treating team.

Ask how results and medicine reviews will be handled and whether cardiac or vascular rehabilitation is recommended. Improving symptoms does not remove the need for long-term risk-factor care.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between cardiothoracic and vascular surgery?

Cardiothoracic surgery concerns selected operations on the heart and chest. Vascular surgery treats selected artery and vein disorders outside the heart. The correct team depends on the exact diagnosis.

Which vascular surgeon can I consult at KPHB?

Dr. Puneeth Joopalli, MBBS, MS, DNB (NIMS), is listed as a vascular and endovascular surgeon with 15+ years of experience. Visits are by confirmed appointment; call +91 9111674111.

Is Dr. Puneeth Joopalli available in Tarnaka?

This page lists his consultations at KPHB only. Contact KPHB for an appointment rather than assuming he consults in Tarnaka.

Who can provide initial clinical cardiology assessment?

Dr. N.N. Venkata Teja, MBBS, PGDCC (Clinical Cardiology), is listed with 5+ years of experience. Tarnaka timing is 9:00 AM–5:00 PM; KPHB consultation is on call by confirmed appointment.

Does this page confirm a cardiac surgeon or heart-surgery facility?

No. For CABG, valve or other cardiothoracic surgery, confirm a named surgeon, the operating hospital and support arrangements separately. The listed consultation profiles do not establish those services.

What is the difference between angiography and angioplasty?

Angiography images coronary arteries to assess narrowing. Angioplasty treats a selected narrowing or blockage, sometimes with a stent. A qualified interventional team determines suitability.

Does every coronary blockage require surgery?

No. Medicines, PCI or bypass may be appropriate in different circumstances. Anatomy, symptoms, urgency and overall health guide the decision.

Are emergency angioplasty services available at every branch?

This page does not verify that. For suspected heart attack, contact emergency services immediately rather than waiting for a routine branch appointment.

Which leg symptoms need urgent attention?

Sudden severe pain, coldness, pallor, numbness or weakness needs emergency assessment. Rest pain, a worsening wound or blackened tissue also requires urgent evaluation. New swelling with chest pain or breathlessness is an emergency.

How much do cardiac or vascular procedures cost?

Costs depend on the actual procedure, urgency, implants, investigations, admission and individual needs. Obtain a written estimate from the treating hospital after assessment and confirm insurance terms.

How long does recovery take?

It varies with the procedure, health and complications. Follow the treating team’s medicine, wound-care, activity and rehabilitation plan; there is no single recovery period for all these treatments.

How can I book the appropriate consultation?

Call KPHB on +91 9111674111 for vascular appointment enquiries, or Tarnaka on +91 9100001201 for clinical cardiology availability. Confirm the specialist, branch and time before travelling.
