GI and Laparoscopic
Gallstones are solid deposits in the gallbladder. Many cause no symptoms. When a stone blocks a duct, it may cause pain, gallbladder inflammation, jaundice or pancreatitis. A scan result alone does not decide whether you need an operation.
Many people with gallstones do not experience symptoms. However, when stones block the bile duct, they can cause:
Seek emergency assessment for sudden severe abdominal pain, pain with repeated vomiting, fever or chills, or jaundice. Do not wait for a booked consultation. Persistent abdominal pain also needs prompt medical review.
Several factors contribute to the formation of gallbladder stones, including:
Bring your ultrasound and blood-test reports. The clinician selects further tests based on symptoms and whether inflammation, bile-duct stones or another problem is suspected; not every patient needs every test below.
✅ Blood Test – To check for infections, liver function, and bile duct obstruction
✅ Ultrasound – A non-invasive imaging test to detect gallstones and assess gallbladder health
Additional imaging: A plain X-ray is not the usual first test for gallstones. Your clinician will decide whether any additional imaging is needed.
✅ MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) – Provides detailed images of the bile ducts and surrounding structures
✅ Endoscopic Ultrasonography (EUS) – A specialized endoscopic test to examine the bile duct and detect small stones
Ask which investigations can be arranged at Tarnaka and whether specialist imaging, EUS or ERCP would require referral. ERCP clears selected bile-duct stones; it does not remove the gallbladder.
Treatment depends on symptoms, stone location and complications. Observation may be appropriate for symptom-free gallbladder stones. Medicines are used only in selected circumstances and do not reliably replace surgery for symptomatic disease.
When gallstones cause recurrent pain or complications, surgery is the most effective treatment. The two primary surgical options are:
Use the Tarnaka appointment to clarify the diagnosis, who will treat you and where the proposed procedure and follow-up would take place.
Tarnaka: Dr. T. Phanindra, General Surgeon; MBBS, MS, FMAS; 10+ years experience; consultation 10:00 AM–5:00 PM. Confirm the slot and discuss the proposed operating surgeon before scheduling surgery.
Ask whether laparoscopic surgery is appropriate, why open surgery may be needed and whether conversion to an open procedure could become necessary for safety.
Confirm the actual surgery branch, anesthesia assessment, admission arrangements and any referral needed for bile-duct treatment.
Ask for fasting and medication instructions, including advice about blood thinners and diabetes medicines. Do not stop prescribed medicines yourself. Arrange transport and support after anesthesia as instructed.
Request a written estimate with inclusions, exclusions, insurance eligibility, quote validity and deposit terms. Confirm charges for extra admission, ERCP or unexpected treatment.
Tarnaka address: H.No 12-5-30, White House, Moula Ali Road, South Lalaguda, Tarnaka, Secunderabad, Telangana 500017. Bring scans, blood tests, medicines/allergies and previous surgery records. Note when pain occurs, how long it lasts and whether fever or jaundice accompanies it.

The amount depends on surgery type, inflammation, additional bile-duct treatment, tests, anesthesia and admission. An assessment is needed before a meaningful individual quote can be prepared.
₹50,000–₹1,00,000: indicative planning range only; not a verified Hyderabad average or confirmed current Tarnaka package. Your total may fall outside this range.
Procedure: Ask whether the quote is for uncomplicated laparoscopic gallbladder removal and what happens to the estimate if the plan changes.
Admission: Confirm room category, included stay, extra bed-day charges and any higher level of care if needed.
Professional fees: Ask whether surgeon, anesthesia, theatre and follow-up consultation fees are included.
Other charges: Confirm tests, medicines, consumables, pathology, dressings and possible ERCP or treatment of complications.
Discuss bleeding, infection, bile leak, bile-duct injury, injury to nearby structures and anesthesia risks before consent. After discharge, contact the team for worsening pain, fever, jaundice, persistent vomiting or a concerning wound change. General reference: NHS gallstone guidance. This does not validate hospital prices or service availability.
Operating time varies with inflammation, anatomy and the planned approach. Ask the surgeon for an individual estimate, including anesthesia and recovery observation; do not plan solely around a fixed procedure duration.
Gallbladder removal is a common operation, but risks include bleeding, infection, bile leak, bile-duct injury and anesthesia complications. Discuss your personal risks and alternatives with the surgeon.
Most people can live normally without a gallbladder. Bile continues to pass from the liver to the intestine. Some people have bowel changes; seek advice if symptoms persist.
₹50,000–₹1,00,000 is an indicative planning range, not a verified city average or confirmed current Tarnaka package. Obtain a written quote after assessment and confirm exclusions; your total may fall outside the range.
Return to work depends on the approach, complications, healing and job demands. Open surgery usually requires longer recovery. Ask for individual restrictions on driving, lifting and exercise rather than assuming a fixed return date.
For non-urgent booking questions, use the enquiry form or call Tarnaka below. Do not use the form to seek emergency care.
